About this course
Each week you will learn different hand building techniques while creating your own pieces… and there’s absolutely no experience needed or pressure to make anything perfect.
Over the six weeks you’ll make at least:
• Two pinch pots
• A fun pinch-pot animal
• A handmade mug
• A patterned coil pot
• An animal sculpture
• Your will finished your pieces with glazes of your choice
You’ll also learn about the pottery process, including preparing and joining clay, adding texture and decoration, glazing your work and how your finished pieces are fired in the kiln.
What to expect
Over six weeks, you’ll learn a variety of hand-building techniques, with clear demonstrations and plenty of support as you create your own pottery.
We’ll make pinch pots, a pinch-pot animal, a mug, a coil pot and an animal sculpture. You’ll explore shaping, joining and adding texture, with room to give each piece your own personality.
You’ll also try different glazing techniques to bring colour to your creations. I’ll take care of the kiln firings, and your finished pieces will be ready to collect after their final firing.
Each session lasts two hours, in a small, friendly group. All clay, glazes, tools and firings are included, just come along ready to have a go and get a little messy!
Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little (or a lot) of clay on, and bring an apron if you’d like (we do have some in the studio). Short nails can make working with clay easier, too! And a hair bobble if you have long hair.
Teas and coffees are provided. Biscuits are available to enjoy during your session. If you’d like to pop a little something in the donation box, it helps keep the biscuit tin topped up!
Oh, and maybe bring a notebook.
