Questions and answers
Everything you might want to know before you get your hands in clay.
Booking and payment
How do I book?
Can I book for more than one person?
Yes. You can book more than one place in a single booking. Just use one person's details when making the booking. For larger or private groups, get in touch.
What if I need to cancel?
Let us know at least 7 days before your session and we will refund you in full, or move you to another date. After that we cannot refund the booking, but you are welcome to send someone else in your place. Our terms of use set this out in full.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes! Pottery makes a lovely gift, especially if you are not quite sure which course or workshop they would prefer. Gift vouchers can be bought through the shop section of our website, so the person you are buying for can choose how they spend it at The Potty Hare.
Workshops
Why do workshops run over two sessions?
Clay has to dry completely and be fired in the kiln before it can be glazed. So on your first visit you make your piece, and a few weeks later you come back to glaze it. Both dates are shown before you book.
Do I need any experience?
Not at all. Our workshops are designed for complete beginners, and you will have guidance every step of the way.
What should I wear?
Clay gets everywhere, so wear comfortable clothes you do not mind getting a little messy. You are welcome to bring your own apron too, although we do have some in the studio. Short nails and tied back hair will also make working with clay much easier.
When can I take my piece home?
After your glazing session, your piece will have one final firing in the kiln. We will give you an estimated collection date at your session, so you will know when to pop back for your finished pottery.
Courses
What if I miss a week?
Let us know as soon as you can. Where there is space, we will do our best to help you catch up.
Do you offer open studio sessions?
Yes. If you already have some pottery experience, you can book studio time to work on your own projects. Choose from individual 2-hour sessions, a block of six 2-hour sessions, or book by the hour if you need a little more flexibility. You will have access to studio tools and equipment, with guidance available if you need it.
The studio
Where are you?
Our studio is in Darlington. The full address is Unit 3, Evans Business Centre, Lingfield Way, Darlington DL1 4QZ. Directions are included with your booking confirmation, and you will find a map on our contact us page.
Is the studio accessible?
Yes. The studio is wheelchair accessible, and we want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome at The Potty Hare. If you have any access requirements, or there is anything we can do to make your visit easier, please get in touch before your session and we will be happy to help.
Is there a minimum age?
Our regular courses and studio sessions are designed for adults, but younger potters will not miss out. We will be running workshops and sessions for children and families through the year. If you would like to bring a younger potter to a regular session, get in touch so we can talk through whether it suits them.
