Our terms

Who we are
This website is run by The Potty Hare, a pottery studio in Darlington, County Durham. The studio is run by Tracy Hare as a sole trader, at Unit 3, Evans Business Centre, Lingfield Way, Darlington DL1 4QZ.
You can reach us at info [at] pottyhare [dot] com or through our contact form.
Using this website
You are welcome to use this site to find out about the studio, book a place and buy a piece. Please do not try to break, copy wholesale, overload or misuse it, and please do not use it for anything unlawful.
We keep the site up to date as best we can, but we cannot promise it will always be available or completely free of mistakes. If you spot something wrong, do tell us.
Booking a workshop or course
- A booking is made when you complete the booking form and we confirm it by email. Your confirmation email is your record of it.
- Places are limited and are held for you only once the booking is confirmed.
- While online payment is switched off, we hold your place and contact you to arrange payment. Your place is confirmed once it is paid for.
- Workshops usually run over two visits: one to make your piece and one to glaze it after firing. Both dates are in your confirmation email.
- Changing or cancelling: let us know at least 7 days before your session and we will refund you in full, or move you to another date, whichever you prefer. After that we cannot refund the booking, but you are very welcome to send someone else in your place - just tell us their name.
- If we cancel a class, you can move to another date or have a full refund.
- Ages: some classes have a minimum age, shown on the class. Under 16s need an adult with them.
In the studio
Clay is messy, so please wear something you do not mind getting dirty, and keep long hair and loose sleeves tied back. Please follow the tutor's instructions, particularly around the kiln, pottery wheels and any other tools and equipment. We can refuse entry or ask someone to leave if they are unsafe or disruptive to others.
In open studio sessions, materials, tools, glazes and firing are included up to a set weight allowance. Particularly large pieces, or extra ones, may need a further firing charge. We will always agree that with you before firing them.
Handmade pottery takes a little time to dry, glaze and make its way through the kiln. We will give you an estimated collection date at your session, so you know when to pop back for your finished pieces. We keep your pottery for up to 8 weeks after that date, unless we agree something else with you.
Buying a piece from the shop
- Every piece is one of a kind, made by hand. Small differences in shape, colour and glaze are part of that, and screens vary, so colours may not match exactly.
- Your order is accepted when we confirm it by email.
- Collection from the studio is free. UK delivery costs the amount shown on that piece. We only deliver within the UK.
- Changing your mind: as this is an online sale, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving your piece, and you then have 14 days to send it back. We refund the price and the standard delivery cost you paid. Return postage is paid by you. Please pack it carefully, as we can reduce a refund if a piece comes back damaged through handling that was not necessary.
- If something arrives broken or faulty, tell us within 7 days with a photograph or video of the damage, and we will replace it if we can, or refund you. This does not affect your legal rights.
Gift vouchers
- Vouchers are emailed once paid for, ready to print or forward, and can be put towards any workshop, course or piece in our shop.
- They last 12 months from the day they are bought. The date is on the voucher.
- A voucher can be used more than once until it runs out. If a booking costs less than the voucher, the rest stays on it.
- Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash, and we cannot replace a code that has been shared with someone else.
- As with anything else bought online, you can cancel a voucher within 14 days of buying it for a full refund, as long as none of it has been used.
- Lost the email? Get in touch and we will send it again.
Experiences
- An experience is a session at the studio, bought as a gift. It is emailed as a certificate once paid for, ready to print or forward.
- Dates are arranged with you afterwards, to suit everyone. Get in touch quoting the code on the certificate.
- Certificates last 12 months from the day they are bought. The date is on the certificate.
- If plans change, the amount paid can be put towards any workshop, course or piece in our shop instead.
- You can cancel within 14 days of buying it for a full refund, as long as it has not been used. Once dates are booked, our usual cancellation terms for classes apply.
- Certificates cannot be exchanged for cash, and we cannot replace a code that has been shared with someone else.
Prices and payment
Prices are in pounds sterling. We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add. Payments are handled by Stripe on their own secure pages, so we never see or store your card details. If a price is obviously wrong, we will contact you before taking payment.
Our words and pictures
The text, photographs, illustrations and logo on this site belong to us and may not be copied or reused without our permission. You are of course free to photograph and share pieces you make.
Links to other sites
Where we link to other websites, such as our Facebook page, we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
If something goes wrong
We are responsible to you if we fail to use reasonable care and skill, but we are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have expected, such as loss of income. Nothing here limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your legal rights as a consumer always stand.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the studio grows. The terms that apply to your booking or order are the ones published when you made it.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes can be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.
